Surviving Toxicity, Preserving my Energy

There are two kinds of toxic people in the world.

  1. The entitled ones who use you for their own gain and to have someone to compare themselves to, to make themselves feel good.
  2. The low-graded ones who need you to prop themselves up or to drag you down with them.

I did not go searching for toxic friends. They came into my life often in schools. Toxicity does not just happen from schools. Many come across it in the workplace too.

One thing you can be sure about, it takes time to identify toxicity and then accept it. Needless to say, I am very careful of people I let into my life now. Distance always helps. When people cross that boundary, you question yourself about their nature. And then the question of toxicity sets in.

It is highly important that you preserve your energy. Take care of yourself first, not others. You do not owe your friends anything.

Relationships can be the most toxic of all. It is imperative that you recognize them within weeks and extricate yourself from them or your life may be in danger. No relationship is worth the mental torture and emotional abuse.

It is much better to be alone with a peace of mind than entertain toxic people.
